Planning for the 2023 Minnesota Water Resources Conference under way with announcement of keynote sessions

Minnesota’s drinking water sustainability, threats, and the future
Tannie Eshenaur, Minnesota Department of Health and A. Marcelle Lewandowski, Water Resources Center, presenters, panelists to named later this summer 

This presentation and panel discussion will examine where Minnesotans get their drinking water, critical issues we are facing today and, in the future, and how to transform the drinking water system with innovation and technology. 

The Mighty Mississippi River 
Presenters to be named later this summer

A presentation highlighting the successes and challenges from the headwaters here in Minnesota all the way to the mouth of the Gulf of Mexico.  The keynote will address major accomplishments in water resource management for the Mississippi, and answer questions about the health of the river.  Presenters will also tackle future concerns about the health and needs of this critical river system.   

Art and Engineering: A Partnership for the Planet 
Paige Novak, Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering, U of M and Gudrun Lock, Weisman Art Museum, presenters

The water system is all one system; however management approaches have been historically in silos – wastewater, stormwater, groundwater, surface water.  This luncheon plenary examines the boundaries of professional water resource management and suggests alternative approaches.

New this year is a student poster competition, with the winner announced on day two of the conference. Students whose posters are accepted by the planning committee will be invited to enter the competition.

The Dave Ford and Deborah Swackhamer awards will be presented at Tuesday’s luncheon session.
