The University of Minnesota’s Water Resources Center, the Minnesota Stormwater Research Council, and the Erosion and Stormwater Management Certification Program are hosting two one-day vegetation identification and maintenance workshops for public and private stormwater maintenance staff.
Each workshop will begin with classroom instruction on using mobile apps to accurately identify plants, how to determine which species to remove or retain, and how to select the appropriate removal techniques for various sites. This will be followed by a visit to the Sarita Conservation Area, where participants will practice plant identification, learn how UMN’s landcare team manages 143,000 square feet of vegetated stormwater basins, and speak with University researchers about effective strategies for managing cattails in stormwater systems.
These workshops are sponsored by the Water Resources Center and the Minnesota Stormwater Research Council, with additional funding support from watershed districts and organizations, cities, private industry, the Minnesota Clean Water Fund, the Institute on the Environment, Minnesota Sea Grant, and the Cold Climate Stormwater Center of Excellence. Thanks to their support, this program is offered free of charge.
Each workshop is limited to 20 participants–be sure to register early to secure your spot. If you are unable to attend, notify us at least one week in advance so we can offer your place to someone else.
