Retrofitting static stormwater infrastructure with controllable valves has been investigated as a means to mitigate the effects of overburdened infrastructure. However, few case studies exist which quantify the impact of water release from actively controlled stormwater assets on receiving waters. This presentation will investigate real time control (RTC) at the site and system scales, providing a real-world case study of multiple controlled stormwater assets in one watershed, and observation of in-stream dynamics during control. Discussion will include the implications of RTC on receiving waters, lessons learned, and pathways forward.
