Les Everett's primary responsibility is the preparation and coordination of statewide Extension projects managed by the Water Resources Center that address agriculture and water quality. An additional responsibility is to coordinate with related state and federal agencies on agricultural projects and programs. His current and recent projects include:

• Phosphorus balance analysis on dairy and beef farms in high density livestock areas to develop strategies for preventing excess buildup of soil phosphorus. Case studies are being developed for workshops and on-line reference. Funded by EPA-MPCA 319 grant.
• Grid soil sampling for guiding manure application. Case studies were developed and are posted on the UM Extension and national eXtension websites, demonstrating the economic and environmental value of using grid soil sampling to guide manure application. Funded by the McKnight Foundation.
• Training for conservation professionals on LiDAR derived digital elevation applications in natural resource management and protection. A training program was developed and delivered via hands-on workshops, and is currently available on the Minnesota Geospatial Office website. Funded by a grant from the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund.
• Previous projects addressed crop nutrient management, conservation tillage, grazing management, and feedlot rules education.

Les has a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in Plant Breeding, an M.S. from Cornell University in Agronomy, and a B. S. from Iowa State University in Farm Operation. He has been at the WRC since 1995. Prior to joining the WRC, he was a scientist for ten years with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture in Nigeria and Cameroon.
