On Thursday, November 15th we’ll celebrate the 7th annual VSMP River Summit at the Science Museum of Minnesota. Registration will begin at 8:30 am with the program kick-off at 9:00. The deadline for registration is November 1, 2007.

Casandra Champion, Metropolitan Council, will be our keynote speaker. In each breakout session, students will present their monitoring results and participate in a small group activity, and a natural resources professional will make a presentation. Every student who attends the Summit will present as part of a small team. Teachers will identify those teams and help the students prepare standard presentations.

Registration for teachers and students will be through your county coordinator: Anoka—Jamie Schurbon, Carver— Tiffany Babich, Dakota—Laura Jester, Hennepin—Mary Karius , Scott—Jaime Rockney, and Washington—Sage Passi. To keep the breakout sessions to an effective size, we are limited to 180 students and teachers, so get your registration in soon! Local coordinators may have funds to help with sub pay or busing; funds may be allocated on a first come-first served basis.

Elected officials, agency and non-profit staff, and other natural resource professionals are also encouraged to attend to learn more about the great work our students are doing in monitoring metro streams. There is no fee, but please register with Barb Liukkonen (liukk001@umn.edu, 612-625-9256) so we know how many to plan for.

Sven Sundgaard, will be our emcee and will help present awards to teachers who have led volunteer monitoring for several years. A continental breakfast will be available during the registration period (8:00–9:00), but lunch will be on your own. The Summit will wrap up about 12:15.
