Assessment of Stormwater Best Management Practices
Filtration Practices
Filtration practices use physical sieving to remove solid pollutants from stormwater runoff. Assessment methods for filtration practices include visual inspection, capacity testing, synthetic runoff testing, and monitoring. For example, synthetic runoff testing of filtration practices estimates the rate at which stormwater runoff seeps into the filter media by filling the filtration practice with a controlled amount of synthetic stormwater. Results from synthetic runoff testing of filtration practices estimate the runoff volume reduction, peak flow reduction, and/or the pollutant retention efficiency.
