Shoreland Education Workshops

Workshops on shoreland management are offered each year throughout Minnesota. This year’s offerings available for public participation are listed below. Customized Workshops

Learning about native plants and weeds at a Shoreland Maintenance Workshop, Sauk CentreWorking in partnership with local citizens, lake leaders and agencies, customized shoreland workshops provide classroom, field instruction, and hands-on experience. Workshops are tailored to address localized shoreland needs. Registration may be restricted to your lake association members or community group, or it may be open to the public. Each workshop emphasizes a holistic approach to shoreland vegetation—addressing environmental functions of a natural shoreline, property owner expectations, and shoreland regulations—that will enable participants to make sound shoreland management decisions and implement revegetation projects at the local level.

Shoreland property should come with an instruction manual! Keeping lakes and streams healthy requires knowledge about many subjects, such as how to evaluate and understand water quality data, how land uses impact water and shoreland quality, and how best to manage our shoreland to minimize impacts.

Plant identification workshops are intended for shoreland property owners, Shoreland Volunteers, lake associations, and natural resource staff with no or limited previous botany background. They include one half-day of classroom training and one day of hands-on field experience. Participants will learn accurate identification of common native and invasive plants using a simple key
