Shoreland Education Program

2005 Workshop Archive

2005 Workshop Brochure

  • Shoreland Plant Workshops

    • Aquatic Plant Identification
This workshop will help you do lake mapping and management plans, as well as those interested in monitoring for exotic species.
    • Curly Leaf Pondweed Management
This workshop will help you understand the importance of maintaining a healthy balance of vegetation in your lake. You'll learn to identify curly leaf pondweed, understand its unique life cycle, and recognize the challenges of controlling it. You'll hear about management options and the permitting process, and learn from other shoreland owners' experiences with curly leaf.
  • Shoreland Revegetation Workshops

    • Introduction to Shoreland Revegetation
A one-day workshop for shoreland property owners, lake associations, and local government officials wanting to understand the relationship between land use and lake health. Participants will design a simple shoreland revegetation project.
    • CANCELLED In-Depth Shoreland Revegetation
This two-day series guides Master Gardeners, Shoreland Volunteers, shoreland property owners, nursery and landscape professionals, and natural resource staff step-by-step through the shoreland design and implementation process. Participants will gain hands-on experience in planning a shoreland revegetation project of their choice.
    • Shoreland Planting
Participants spend one day assisting with site preparation and planting of an actual shoreland revegetation project. Learn by doing.
    • Shoreland Erosion Control for Property Owners
This one-day workshop will assist shoreland owners, lake association members, government officials, landscape and nursery professionals, and natural resource staff to evaluate a shoreline, select appropriate erosion control methods, and develop a lake-friendly stabilization plan for an eroding shoreline. Bring photos or sketches of an eroding shoreline that you would like to work on, if available. All other workshop materials, lunch, and refreshments are provided.
  • Shoreland Volunteer Workshops

These workshops address the basics of how lakes and streams function and how our actions can affect Minnesota’s lakes and streams. By providing research-based information and ways to share that information, this program helps property owners make a difference in the quality of their lake or river. The workshops are useful for everyone living or vacationing near water, but are especially valuable for new shoreland property owners.
