Projects: AIS Public Education, HabitattitudeTM, Stop Aquatic HitchhikersTM, Youth Education, AIS-Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point Training
Doug Jensen works in collaboration with the UMES Shoreland Team to teach shoreland property owners, boaters, anglers, aquarists, water gardeners, aquaculturists, live baitfish operators, natural resource professionals, and others how to prevent and minimize the devastating impacts of aquatic invasive species (AIS). Doug brings an outcomes-based approach to programs through a unique lens of behavioral science, social marketing, media relations, evaluation, environmental education and research. He has provided leadership on AIS issues from state to international levels. Currently, he is working with the pet industry and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to co-lead Habitattitude, a new national campaign aimed to prevent the release of unwanted aquarium fish and plants into the environment. He is also leading implementation of the national Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers campaign with DNRs and other partners in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa.
In addition to 12 years of experience with Sea Grant, Doug was a research biologist with the EPA, where he worked to assess the impacts of environmental contaminants and waterwater on fish and other aquatic organisms. He has a M.S. of Education and a B.S. in Biology from the University of Minnesota Duluth.
